The Benefits of going Outdoors

Spring is here, and for most of us, that means the weather is becoming nicer! As the weather turns warmer, it’s easier to spend time outdoors, which is great for your overall wellbeing. Here are some of the many health benefits of going outdoors!

Physical Health

Spending some time outside is great for your physical health. The fresh air can help clear your lungs, it can help you feel more energetic, and it can even support your immune health.

The sunshine also offers health benefits. Spending just a few minutes in the sunshine can help your body produce vitamin D. This isn’t an excuse to go out and get completely sunburned, of course. There’s a big difference between spending a few minutes enjoying the sunshine and spending a couple of hours subjecting your unprotected skin to its rays. After a few minutes in the sun, put on some sunscreen so you don’t cause damage to your skin.

And finally, going outside is a great way to prioritize exercise. Many outdoor activities involve at least a little bit of physical activity. Whether you’re spending some time in the garden, walking around a farmer’s market, or hitting the road on your bike, it will be easy to fit in your physical activity for the day!

Emotional Health

Your emotional health and your physical health are closely tied, and going outdoors is great for both. Spending some time in the sunshine and fresh air is a great way to relax and relieve some stress. It will take you out of your usual environment and give you a chance to step back from stressors so you can come back with a fresh perspective. It can even help reduce mental fatigue.
